The final installment of Jung Yi-shin's 'Korean Trilogy in Japan,' 'Sumire Beauty Salon,' is set to premiere at the Sejong Cultural Center. This work, set against the backdrop of a Japanese coal mining town in the 1960s, depicts the process of loss and recovery experienced by Sumie, a Korean resident in Japan, and her family as they grapple with a coal mine explosion. Inspired by the Miike coal mine disaster, the play sheds light on the stories of Korean laborers in Japan who have been overlooked in history, showcasing their sacrifices that contributed to Japan's economic growth. Although it is a story from the past, it can evoke empathy through the experiences of those who suffer today due to downsizing or accidents.
