In Makassar on Sulawesi island, angry protesters set fire to a provincial assembly building, resulting in 3 deaths and 5 injuries. Protesters are clashing with police while demonstrating against the excessive housing allowances received by parliamentarians. Although Indonesia's president appealed for calm among the protesters, demonstrations continue to spread nationwide, and seven police riot officers have been detained for investigation in connection with the death of the delivery driver.
