The Joint Investigation Team for Complex Collusion investigated suspicions of political collusion between Shincheonji and the Unification Church for about eight months, but did not indict any politicians. Although there were allegations that the Unification Church had made illegal donations to politicians, the politicians were excluded from indictment on the grounds that they were unaware of the origin of the money deposited into their accounts. There were also suspicions that Shincheonji forced its members to join the People Power Party, but the Joint Investigation Team stated that organized forced membership at the general meeting level was not confirmed. The allegations of violation of the Political Funds Act against Lee Hee-ja, president of the Unification Church's Root Foundation, who was pointed out as a "link" between Shincheonji and the political world, were transferred to the police. In addition, allegations that a former Shincheonji executive acquired a factory owned by the family of Kim Kun-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, using Shincheonji funds were also transferred to the police. Although the Joint Investigation Team confirmed various suspicions, including political collusion and tax evasion by Shincheonji during the investigation, no politicians were indicted.
