The Democratic Party of Korea argued against the People Power Party's claim that the prosecution's supplementary investigation authority should be abolished in light of the Jeju disappearance case. The Democratic Party pointed out that police misconduct is not solved by strengthening prosecutorial investigative powers, and instead insisted that the problem should be addressed through police reform. The Democratic Party criticized the People Power Party for failing to break away from the perception of past administrations where prosecutorial power expansion led to problems. Furthermore, it emphasized that recent cases of police mishandling cannot be attributed solely to individual errors and that institutional and organizational culture improvements are necessary.
