A domestic research team has identified an increase in the ERBB4 receptor within excitatory neurons as a key factor accelerating the vicious cycle of Alzheimer's disease. In experiments with Alzheimer's disease model mice, removing ERBB4 alleviated neuronal circuit hyperactivity, synaptic imbalance, and microglial inflammation, and showed improvements in memory and spatial cognitive abilities. Furthermore, analysis of human brain tissue also revealed that the higher the expression level of ERBB4 within excitatory neurons of Alzheimer's disease patients, the more severe the amyloid beta plaque accumulation and cognitive impairment.
