The Indonesian government has officially launched a solar power plant project (PLTS) with a target capacity of 100 Gigawatt peak (GWp). The initial phase of the project was marked by the groundbreaking of 14 PLTS in West Java, East Java, Bangka Belitung Islands, and Riau Islands with a total capacity of 5.3 GWp. This project is part of the National Priority Work Program Cluster for Energy and Water Independence which aims to increase national energy independence and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Currently, the total power generation capacity in Indonesia from various energy sources is only around 88 GW. President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic that this PLTS project can achieve the target of 100 GWp in less than three years.
