The US aircraft carrier George Washington has moved from the Pacific to the Middle East and begun operations. The Washington replaces the Abraham Lincoln, which was previously deployed in the Middle East, and whose crew faced operational issues due to a nine-month long deployment. With the Washington's move to the Middle East, there are currently no US aircraft carriers deployed in the Asia-Pacific region. This, coupled with President Trump's directive to reduce US-South Korea joint exercises, is raising concerns that the United States' security commitments to its Indo-Pacific allies may be weakening.
