As of 2024, foreigners accounted for only 0.4% of long-term care insurance recipients in Korea, but about 80% of them were overseas Koreans of Chinese nationality. They resided in Korea for an average of 6 to 7 years and received a long-term care grade after paying insurance premiums. The use of home care benefits is increasing compared to institutional care benefits. The financial balance of foreign long-term care insurance recorded a surplus of approximately 1,321 billion won, which was due to insurance premium income exceeding benefit payments. Korea has relatively lower requirements for foreigners' enrollment and receipt of long-term care insurance compared to other countries. Considering the future trend of increasing foreign recipients, it is necessary to establish a systematic monitoring system and revise enrollment regulations.
