The rupiah strengthened sharply against the US dollar in Monday's trading (10/9/2026), driven by the announcement of Destry Damayanti's nomination as a candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia. This strengthening is evident from Bloomberg and RTI Business data, showing an increase in the rupiah exchange rate of up to 0.79% at the level of Rp 17,755. The rupiah strengthening trend has been ongoing for the past month, with an increase of 1.84% against the US dollar. Destry Damayanti's nomination as the sole candidate for BI Governor was submitted by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi to the DPR leadership. The government also submitted one name for a Senior Deputy Governor candidate and one name for a Deputy Governor candidate to the DPR.
