The Democratic Party of Korea candidates for party leader, Jung Cheong-rae, Kim Min-seok, and Song Young-gil, carried out their final campaign efforts in Honam and the metropolitan area ahead of the general assembly on August 17th. Kim Min-seok focused on securing support in the metropolitan area, stating that he would uphold the party's trust in the Seoul mayoral by-election. Jung Cheong-rae strived to gain support from the Honam region through promises of regional development in North Jeolla Province. Song Young-gil emphasized his status as the only candidate from Honam and presented the possibility of a comeback. The three candidates are expected to compete for the hearts of Honam voters by presenting their policies on the establishment of a semiconductor cluster in the southwestern region during a televised debate hosted by KBC Gwangju Broadcasting in the afternoon.
