Debra Smith received worldwide attention for translating Han Kang's 'Vegetarian' into English in 2016, but she was also hurt by mistranslation controversies and intense scrutiny during the process. He later withdrew from the Korean literary world for a while, but is scheduled to visit Korea for the first time in six years this October. He is currently translating Kim Hae-ja's poetry collection and has expressed his love for the Korean language again. Smith cherishes his connection with Han Kang and hopes to introduce his daughter to her someday.
