A 19-year-old French student in Singapore sparked controversy by posting on social media a video of himself licking the straw of a juice vending machine and then putting it back. As a result, the vending machine operator sanitized the machine and replaced all the straws due to hygiene concerns. The prosecution sought the maximum fine for disturbing public order, but the court sentenced the defendant to a fine of S$600, considering his admission of guilt and his young age. The defendant's lawyer emphasized his sincere remorse and stated that the defendant himself would pay the fine instead of his parents.
