The earthquake caused significant damage, including roads rising up and buildings collapsing. Notably, sections of Kumamoto Castle's walls crumbled, resulting in damage to cultural heritage sites. Residents struggled to stand due to the intense shaking, with some sustaining injuries requiring hospitalization.
