Serious traffic congestion is occurring in the vicinity of large hospitals in Seoul. This is due to the fact that many critically ill patients use passenger cars, and the 'medical migration' phenomenon of patients from non-metropolitan areas flocking to Seoul is intensifying. In particular, the number of patients from non-metropolitan areas at five major general hospitals in Seoul increased by 11.8% compared to 2022. While hospitals encourage the use of public transportation or free shuttle buses, the proportion of passenger car use remains high due to the health condition of the patients. Adverse weather conditions such as summer monsoon rains are further exacerbating traffic congestion.
