Former President Moon Jae-in was investigated by the prosecution on suspicion of covering up and downplaying the West Sea public official assault case. Civic groups accused former President Moon of abusing his power and writing and using false official documents, alleging that he approved the final assault case after receiving reports from the Ministry of National Defense. However, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office dropped charges against former President Moon due to lack of evidence. This is also related to the fact that all other individuals indicted in connection with the West Sea public official assault case were acquitted.
