Korean tidal flats have been expanded in the scope designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tidal flats in Seosan, Yeosu, Goheung, and Muan regions have been added, bringing the total number of regions included in the World Heritage Site to eight. With this expansion, Korea's tidal flats are expected to further strengthen ecological connectivity and contribute to the conservation of internationally important migratory bird routes and diverse marine life. However, tidal flats in Incheon, Busan, and Hwaseong regions have not yet been included in the World Heritage Site, and civic groups are demanding that these tidal flats be also registered as World Heritage Sites. The next step is for Korea's capital city walls to challenge for World Heritage registration.
