Indonesian civil society organizations are strongly opposing a bill that would expand the authority of the police, prosecution, and military. These organizations warn that abuse of power and corruption are already frequent among law enforcement agencies and the military, and that granting additional authority would further worsen human rights violations. They argue instead that law enforcement reform should be achieved through strengthening internal oversight systems and enhancing the role of external monitoring bodies. Currently, the parliament is planning to amend the prosecution law, while discussions on amending police and military-related laws remain suspended.
