MLB Athletics rookie infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer underwent emergency surgery after being hit in the groin by a foul ball during a game. He managed to hit a single despite being struck by the foul ball in his second at-bat in the fifth inning and even played defense for an inning afterward. Kuroda-Grauer was diagnosed with a testicular rupture and placed on the 10-day injured list following surgery. He had been performing exceptionally well, recording a .417 batting average in 16 games since his debut, but this incident will sideline him for a while. The Athletics manager praised Kuroda-Grauer's determination.
