The United States is expected to impose tariffs on forced labor and overproduction under Section 301 of the Trade Act after the global tariff of 10% imposed under Section 122 expires on July 24th. South Korea is expected to face a 12.5% tariff on forced labor, with additional tariffs possible for overproduction. Since the US-Korea trade agreement sets a tariff ceiling of 15%, imposing Section 301 tariffs exceeding that threshold could lead to controversy over violation of the agreement. While the United States recently imposed a 25% tariff on Brazil, direct comparison is difficult due to the difference in trade agreements with South Korea.
