Eat Off Big Bore Tubeless Valve

Currently, I have installed and am using tubeless valves on all 4 bicycles that I own .

However, I currently do not have any wheels equipped with Presta valves.

What does that mean?

To be precise, it's a tubeless system but I'm not using Presta valves.

Even as tubeless became common, Presta valves are still being used.

Since they've been used for a long time, it doesn't seem like they'll disappear overnight. However, the shortcomings of Presta valves haven't been improved

and they're still being used.

Of course, when Schwalbe made the Click Valve, they complemented many of the existing Presta valve shortcomings and achieved fast air injection and simple structure

They aimed to improve convenience without great cost, but there were some disappointing aspects in pump nozzle compatibility.

As a workaround, they provided adapters compatible with regular pumps, but carrying them all the time was cumbersome and inconvenient.

-The distributor did release a BETO EZ head pump that they said was compatible with Schwalbe Click Valve, but regardless of performance

using the pump was inconvenient. The hose was too short and the pump body was too light, so something was lacking in the finish for using it as a floor pump.

It needs a certain amount of weight to hold up...but it couldn't do that.

And officially

there is no official product specification for pumps compatible with Click Valve.

https://www.sks-germany.com/en/SKS-GERMANY/Spotlight/CLIK-TEC.htm?a=catalog&p=1076

Even what SKS made was just an adapter to replace the existing pump chuck.

Lezyne also made an adapter compatible with Click Valve.

https://ride.lezyne.com/pages/clik-valve-pumps-accessories

So while the Click Valve system itself is excellent, it's either not compatible with existing pump chucks or you physically need to change the chuck for Click Valve

which is cumbersome.

Another disadvantage of the Click Valve is that it's difficult to use with floor pump nozzles that connect to the valve by twisting in a threaded manner.

This means it lacks versatility.

As I've been using the Click Valve and thinking about pump compatibility, I've been wondering if I should buy another pump altogether...exclusively for Click Valve??

I have these concerns. (Of course, I have a 5 horsepower air compressor at home...)

In any case, the disadvantages of Presta valves are that the top of the valve core is easily broken or bent,

and there is also the problem that Presta valves and sealant have somewhat poor compatibility in tubeless systems.

By the way, (Presta, Dunlop, Schrader) besides these valves, there is something called Regina Valve-Regina Valve-

made with terrible Italian gay sensibility but it never became widespread.

At one time, Michelin used to make tubes with Regina valves.

If you're curious about what this is, you can watch from 10 minutes and 30 seconds in the video below.

Anyway, as I wrote earlier, one of the disadvantages when using a tubeless system combined with a Presta valve is

tubeless sealant sticking to the bottom of the valve core, causing the valve stem to become clogged.

We call this symptom 'arteriosclerosis', 'thrombosis' and in English-speaking regions it's expressed as Tubeless Valve Clogged .

When sealant hardens and blocks the bottom of the valve core or the bottom of the valve stem, air inflation may not be smooth or accurate air pressure checking can be difficult

. That's why some people replace the entire valve core.

This time, while assembling a Cervélo S5, I was wondering whether to use the Reservoir-Fillmore valve provided with the finished bike, but after deliberation

I chose the Muc-Off Big Bore valve.

The reason is simple. I didn't want easy maintenance and sealant debris to accumulate, and there's also the advantage that sealant injection is easy

The Big Bore valve uses the same ball valve structure.

This is what the Presta and Schrader valve structures look like

Presta-Schrader-cutaway

When you look at a cross-section of a Presta valve or Schrader valve, the internal structure looks like this.

The Presta valve has a narrower lumen(a passage through which fluid flows)compared to the Schrader.

The Schrader valve has a wide lumen, so the valve stem itself is thick, which is not suitable for road bike rims

However, the internal structure of the big bore valve looks like this.

The big bore valve has no valve core. Muc-Off discarded the valve core. There is only a ball valve.

The photo is probably unrelated to any specific person. (Probably)

Since there is nothing blocking it in the middle, air inflation is very fast and easy,.

When inflating air into a wheel equipped with a Presta valve, the resistance to the pump piston is very low, so it requires less effort.

Compared to the Presta valve, there is almost no resistance, so it receives and delivers almost all of the air volume generated by the pump.

It's good because you can fill the air pressure quickly. When refilling sealant, you can separate the middle of the valve stem and refill the sealant very easily.

It's not a sleek design, but it involves some compromise in functionality and maintenance and serviceability.

On an aero road bike, if it's not a valve that protrudes so much externally or a slim-shaped valve, doesn't it create air resistance...?

There were opinions like it being an aesthetic drawback, but I prioritize maintenance convenience, management, and ease of maintenance,

so I set aside the Presta valve that comes standard with the complete bike and chose the big bore valve.

Actually, before this product was officially imported domestically, I was already using it on MTB bikes through overseas purchases.

Among big bore valves, only the 80mmlong ones were imported domestically.

37mm, 45mm If you're unsure what size rim height to use...then let's check the manufacturer's manual.

Select the right dropdown menu and choose the wheel manufacturer and the wheel I'm currently using

Then select the valve length suggested by Muc-Off. Most wheels are compatible

Rim height 77mm 88mm It may be difficult to use on high-profile rims like these, but this is not a common case so we can ignore it

UCI standards limit the maximum rim height to 64mm, so it should be usable on most wheels.

In Korea, only the black color came in 3XL(80mm) length, so it's a bit boring

Currently, oil slick, pink, and red colors have been added

Well... a man's dream is pink

However, like everything, it doesn't have only advantages.

There are also disadvantages, so let me briefly summarize the pros and cons

Advantages: Sealant rarely blocks or accumulates in the valve core, valve stem euro.

Fast air inflation

Almost perfect sealing is maintained just by turning the valve lock lever

Unlike Presta valves, the core won't bend or break.

There are threads on the front of the valve, so depending on the pump nozzle, it's either a twist-on or push-on method

It's compatible with almost all pumps, CO2inflator heads without issue.

Sealant refill is simple.

Disadvantages: When inflating, you must first connect the pump and valve and then open the valve. Otherwise, air will escape instantly and

sealant will spray out. (It's more of a precaution than a disadvantage.)

Like a Presta valve fine air pressure adjustment is a bit difficult.

somewhat expensive price

Conclusion: if some compromise is reached between aesthetic elements, maintenance, and convenience of maintenance

the big bore valve is a good choice that frees you from the stress of valve clogging when using sealant....

In summary

I've tried Schwalbe click valves too, but the big bore valve was the best choice for me.

For the rest of my other bikes, I remove the Presta valve core and use a Topeak - Air Flow valve adapter

I'll go into more detail about this later.

By the way, when will the exchange rate stabilize? I want to order some nice items, but it's not the first time I've given up looking at the exchange rate
