The Jakarta Special Region Government has enacted Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2025, which stipulates procedures for marriage and divorce among civil servants (ASN). According to this regulation, if a male ASN wishes to take multiple wives, approval from relevant civil service officials is required. Conditions must include the consent of all wives, physical disability or incurable disease of the first wife, or failure to bear children for 10 years. The regulation also requires consideration of whether the ASN can treat all wives and children fairly, provide adequate financial support, ensure it does not interfere with official duties, and has obtained court approval for polygamy. Failure to meet these conditions results in a polygamy ban. The Jakarta Special Region Government emphasized that this regulation aims to protect ASN families and prevent illegal divorce and 'nikah siri' (unregistered marriage).
