I've prepared a simple comparison article between the suddenly popular BSC500 and the existing flagship Bryton series.

Thank you.

1. Detailed Specs

2. Operability

Both BSC500 and Bryton support touch + physical buttons.

However, the BSC500 has only 3 buttons, which can be inconvenient to operate if the touch function is locked due to rain or water. On the other hand, the Bryton series has 6 buttons, so there is no significant inconvenience in operation even if the touch function is locked.

3. Display

BSC500 (Transflective type): This method illuminates the entire screen with backlight like a smartphone. It has good color reproduction and is very clear in nighttime or dark environments, but readability drops under direct sunlight and battery consumption is high.

Bryton / Bryton Aero (Reflective type): This method reflects external light to illuminate the screen. The brighter the sunlight, the clearer it appears, and readability is good even without backlight, resulting in excellent battery efficiency. On the other hand, it may appear relatively dim in dark environments.

* Under direct sunlight, the existing reflective type like Bryton is clearer.

* In cloudy or dark environments, BSC500 is definitely brighter.

* Even with the brightness set to maximum, the reflective type is brighter under direct sunlight.
* The reflective type remains as bright as the maximum even when the brightness is set to 0.

* The BSC500 screen becomes invisible when the brightness is set to 0 under direct sunlight.

* In non-direct sunlight (overcast or nighttime), the BSC500 displays more clearly.
* When operating in daytime/bright conditions, the BSC500 relies heavily on the backlight for visibility (reducing battery life).
* However, the BSC500 is clearly superior in nighttime visibility. (The exact opposite of direct sunlight conditions)
4. Voice Guidance and Electronic Bell

Voice Guidance: Uses the device's built-in speaker to verbally deliver turn-by-turn directions and alerts while riding a route. You can follow the route without looking at your smartphone or constantly watching the screen, greatly improving riding safety. Particularly useful when riding an unfamiliar course.
Electronic Bell: Produces an electronic horn (bell) sound through the device's built-in speaker. Useful for alerting pedestrians to your presence or getting their attention in urban sections where bike lanes and pedestrians are mixed. There is no need to install a separate physical bell, keeping the handlebar clean and uncluttered.
When using a Di2 drivetrain, it can be linked with the hidden button on the shifter (lever), allowing you to easily ring the bell without taking your hands off the handlebars while riding, making it extremely practical.
These features are exclusive to the BSC500 model and are not supported on the higher-end Bynavy or Bynavy Air lineups.

5. Features Lacking Compared to the Bynavy Series
The BSC500 is an entry-level model focused on value and convenience features (voice guidance, electronic bell), so it does have its limitations.
* At 107g, it is the heaviest of the three models, which is a drawback for riders who prioritize weight savings.
* Compared to the higher-end models, it falls short in operability, interface, customization, and advanced features offered.
* It lacks the comprehensive sports-science-based data analysis and systematic training design features provided by the Bynavy.
* Displays only basic current weather. No weather forecast feature like the Bynavy.
* Interface is simple, with no customization features such as boot screen customization.
* Page settings cannot be configured on the device itself; changes must be made through the app only.
* Advanced data including cycling dynamics is not supported (supported only on the Bynavy series).
* There are also quite a few other data fields not supported compared to the Bynavy.
* Uses the older i-Climb 2.0, so maps are not provided.
* The Free Climb feature, which operates without a route file, is also expected to not be supported.
* Only basic navigation features are supported (advanced/convenience features are supported only on the Bynavy).
* Route guidance indicators >> also show up to 6 on the Bynavy series, but the BSC500 shows only 3, like previous models.
* Segments also support only basic functionality.
* Only basic training features are provided.
* Training data analysis functionality not supported. (Byinavi Air is not supported either, only Byinavi is supported)
* Similarly, advanced data / training features are also not supported. (Byinavi Air is not supported either, only Byinavi is supported)
* Similarly, advanced data / training features are also not supported. (Byinavi Air is not supported either, only Byinavi is supported)
* Similarly, advanced data / training features are also not supported. (Byinavi Air is not supported either, only Byinavi is supported)
* Similarly, advanced data / training features are also not supported. (Byinavi Air is not supported either, only Byinavi is supported)
※ BSC500 was filmed dark with severe flickering, but in reality it is neither that dark nor is the flickering visible to the eye.

iGPSPORT BSC500 - Personal Impressions
Overall: A model with sufficient functionality for light users, but has some shortcomings if you want more.
1. In bright daylight, the existing semi-transmissive display is good because it doesn't consume battery.
2. However, if you ride in cloudy weather or at night, BSC500's display is overwhelmingly better.
3. The electronic bell function is as useful as a 54T ratchet sound on bike paths.
4. Voice guidance is nice to have, but I didn't find it particularly inconvenient without it.
5. The basics are solid, but there are many subtle missing features. (Grade division clearly exists.)
And...
BSC500 also came out with good value for money, but honestly I'm more looking forward to the next flagship model that will be upgraded. =_=
