A Foreign National (FN) from Singapore was fined RM88 million for buying subsidized RON95 petrol in Malaysia. The man, around 50 years old, was found guilty of violating the new rule that prohibits foreign-registered vehicles from purchasing subsidized fuel since April 1, 2026. The sentence was handed down by the Sessions Court and the defendant paid it on the same day. The Malaysian government is committed to eradicating the misuse of subsidized fuel in order to protect local consumers and maintain national supply stability. Violations of this rule can result in a fine of up to RM1 million, imprisonment for a maximum of three years, or both.
