In the early morning hours of January 1, 2025, six illegal homes were destroyed by fire in the Cilincing district of North Jakarta, Indonesia, triggered by firecrackers. The fire started when firecrackers fell onto a semi-permanent structure and spread rapidly to nearby makeshift houses. Firefighting authorities arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of receiving the emergency call and began extinguishing operations, fully suppressing the fire in approximately two hours. A 70-year-old homeowner was severely burned in the incident and is receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
