Since I live in Jeongeup I make sure to go every year
It was genuinely tears-and-snot brutal, but that was the case last year too,
so I figured I should skip it this year, but somehow
ended up going anyway. This year the course changed, and starting from the very beginning at Churyeong
it was incredibly rough, and my legs kept cramping here and there
so I probably walked the bike for almost half the ride. One marshal
sprayed some pain-relief spray on me and told me to take the sag wagon, but even though I'm
definitely not a strong rider, I just couldn't accept riding the sag wagon, so I stubbornly
kept going. I remember it was past the 37km mark when I reached aid station 1, and the time was
around 10:20 or so
They said if you don't get in by [X]:40 you get cut off, so I was like huh? I'm doing the Medio,
does Medio even get cut off..I thought, but at aid station 1
I was drinking a cola when a sag wagon pulled right up
and said something about 40 minutes, cutoff, no more starting, lol
I tapped on the window and politely asked
I'm a Medio participant, does Medio get cut off too?
They said Medio riders could still go, so around minute 41
at the first cutoff point I made the U-turn onto the Medio course, and after that
I think I walked the bike for maybe another 2km. It was called Gujeoljae? or something
it was genuinely brutally hard..no end in sight no matter how far you went..
Then further along I ran into another marshal who said the road-closure time
window had a limit, so if you just keep pushing your bike like this you can't
continue anymore, wait here and take the sag wagon, so I said
no thanks, I'm fine, I can make it, and in the end my legs
cramped up anyway, and one of my cleats got stripped and wouldn't even clip in lol
Nothing was going my way. Still, I ate some watermelon,
rested a bit, and came home with a medal
