Hello, I wrote about buying a Roval 321 about a year ago, and now more than a year has passed. I'm going to write a long-term review of the shield wheel on a road bike. I haven't had much time, so I think I've ridden about 5000km.
1. Even though it's a lightweight shield wheel, each one weighs 1015g. It's really dull. Starting is very slow and difficult.
2. While not as much as when used in a time trial bike, it's definitely aerodynamic. Even when the speed goes over 33, you can feel it definitely helps.
3. It might be a problem only with Roval 321, but the wheel is really stiff, and the material itself is soft, so cracks form very easily on flat spots from stones. Stones bounce and press down, and when struck by pedals, cracks form.
4. There's a humming sound when riding. It sounds like the sound of air resonating from inside. Students who ride fixed gear bikes seem to like it, but I'm not sure. Of course, it's a cool sound.
In conclusion, it's a wheel that's heavy and dull in both acceleration and deceleration. Thank you for reading this long post.
