After a fiery speech in which Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodríguez accused the Trump administration of illegally kidnapping Nicolás Maduro, she issued a statement taking a far more conciliatory stance.
She proposed cooperation and dialogue with the United States, emphasizing peace and sovereignty, but did not demand Maduro's release.
Maduro is currently imprisoned in a federal penitentiary in New York on drug charges, and Venezuela's Supreme Court has officially declared Rodríguez as interim president.
Trump has previously warned that he would impose "a heavy price" if there was no cooperation.
