Trump, Angry at Republican Senators — "Weakened America's Right to Self-Defense"
- 2026.1.9 (Official)
Former U.S. President Donald Trump strongly criticized some Republican senators. He said "Republicans should be ashamed of them" toward Republican senators who voted together with Democrats to try to limit the administration's military response authority.
Trump specifically pointed out Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, Josh Hawley, and Todd Young, arguing "They should never be elected to public office again." He criticized this vote as "greatly damaging America's right to self-defense and national security, and hindering the President's command authority over the military."
He also emphasized that the 'War Powers Act' itself is an "unconstitutional law" that violates Article 2 of the Constitution, and that previous presidents and the Justice Department have taken the same position as him. Trump predicted regarding this controversy that "there will be a more important Senate vote next week."
