Minnesota Governor Tim Walz authorized the deployment of the National Guard to support local police after tensions escalated following the fatal shooting of a woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in the Minneapolis area yesterday.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said it was withdrawing from the investigation as the FBI took over. Walz urged that "Minnesota must also be involved in this investigation."
Vice President JD Vance reaffirmed the Trump administration's stance defending ICE agents during a White House briefing today. He called attacks on law enforcement "the actions of radical leftists" and described the death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good as "a tragedy she brought upon herself."
State and local authorities are divided over whether the shooting was justified self-defense. Several videos reviewed by CNN reveal the complexity of the situation, and it remains unclear exactly what transpired immediately before the shooting.
