TSMC is expanding local investment in the U.S. Arizona by additionally purchasing land worth approximately $197 million as a site for a future Gigafab (mega-factory)
Simultaneously, it is reviewing plans to reduce 12-inch mature-node production in Taiwan and transfer some process equipment to VIS (Vanguard International Semiconductor), a Singapore subsidiary's 12-inch fab
The space secured in this way is expected to be used for expanding advanced process lines such as 2nm and 3nm, and some high-end power management chip (PMIC) orders are expected to be transferred to the Singapore facility
For Japan's Kumamoto Fab 2, a plan to skip 6nm and proceed directly to 2nm process was discussed as an internal proposal, a strategy targeting major AI customers such as NVIDIA and AMD
