Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, whose remarks about the possibility of intervention in case of a Taiwan contingency drew strong backlash from China, has this time made statements to the effect that Japanese and American citizens should be rescued from Taiwan.
According to the Asahi Shimbun and Nikkei on the 27th, Prime Minister Takaichi appeared on a TV program the previous day and said, "When something major happens there, we (Japan) must go and rescue Japanese and American citizens in Taiwan," and "There may also be situations where we act jointly (with the United States)."
