As usual, I was playing with AI at home and opened Gemini web chat.
I haven't chatted with Gemini much recently, so I decided to check my conversation history just in case, and there were over 480 conversation windows.
Some of the content included ADHD treatment processes and such, so I suddenly thought, "I need to save this!"
Previously, I tried to figure out how to export Gemini web conversations, and after finding out that Google doesn't directly provide this feature, I gave up. Recently, I confirmed it was possible with Obsidian Web Clipper, but extracting all 400 conversations seemed like too much manual labor. Recently, while digging into browser developer tools (which I don't fully understand) while talking about clipping and whatnot, I got the idea that I could scrape data using selectors, so I started a conversation with Claude today.
Me: Can I extract Gemini conversations with a Chrome extension?
Claude: Well, I'd need to see to know.
So I opened the developer tools again, extracted the conversation selector window, and managed to extract the conversations.
Of course, there's an extension called **AI Exporter: ChatGPT·Gemini Conversation Save (PDF/Word/MD) | Notion Integration | NotebookLM Support** that performs this function very well and extracts it nicely in JSON format, but the format was different from ours, and the problem was that I could only extract one conversation at a time.
After struggling with this for a while, I instructed Claude to directly control the browser with cmux and extract the data, and whoosh, it handled it.
cmux browser is very convenient because it can extract session information as a file too. Do use cmux..
Anyway, the extension was completed so that when you open the Gemini web screen in Chrome and run the extension, you can extract all conversations.
468 conversations—an astonishing number—with the longest turn being 580, a conversation lasting 8 hours, and the conversation content even goes from "Is it illegal to watch a soccer for free at an apartment?" → Real estate → Home appliances → Networks → Space/Philosophy → Consciousness uploading, which is a typical ADHD conversation pattern.. It has no value as a wiki, but that is also my memory..
Anyway, I succeeded in the end. Today again, I'm spending an exciting time with AI doing something that seems both unimportant and important.
PS. The extension I made is optimized for secall. If anyone happens to need it, please let me know and I'll refine it and share it with you. For general clipping, the extension mentioned above is much better. And for Mac users, definitely try cmux. It's better than Chrome Claude MCP.
