U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that he tried to supply guns to Iranian anti-government protesters through the Kurds, but the Kurds apparently did not deliver them.
President Trump said in a Fox News interview on the 5th local time, "We sent them (Iranian protesters) a lot of guns. We sent them through the Kurds, and I think the Kurds took the guns."
President Trump emphasized, "We sent a huge number of guns to the protesters. And I think the Kurds took the guns."
Iran saw massive anti-government protests involving hundreds of thousands of people nationwide last January.
At the time, President Trump criticized the Iranian regime's killing of protesters and repeatedly indicated that the United States could intervene for the protesters.
President Trump expected Iranians dissatisfied with the regime to rise up after the outbreak of the Iran war, but no such trend appeared.
British newspaper The Telegraph analyzed that the reason no movement to overthrow the regime appeared in Iran may be because the protesters did not receive guns from the United States.
