I can't code at all, but thanks to Claude and Google Apps Script, I've been able to create various things that I had only thought about in elementary school classrooms.
This is a quiz platform made last week in the style of Pac-Man for solving formative assessments. The reason for making it was
1. To remove unnecessary competition and focus on achieving goals
Although there are many convenient quiz platforms already used at schools, I wasn't using them because they often involve unnecessary competition where speed affects scores.
Also, quizzes always ended up with the same top students ranking first, which was a problem.
From a teacher's perspective, the goal is to help students understand the content through formative assessments, but students only care about their scores and rankings. They give up if they're not in the top ranks.
So I created this quiz where you can earn points but cannot compare them with other students' scores. This prevents students from obsessing over numbers and ranking.
The scoring also includes randomness to help prevent frustration or obsession with scores.
The score earned when solving a quiz is randomly determined between 10-20 points. If you get it wrong once, the possible score drops to between 5-15 points. After getting several questions wrong and then answering correctly, you earn just 1 point.
The goal of the game is to solve formative assessment problems well to increase your score. Since the problem locations and answer choices are randomly presented, simply memorizing the answers' positions won't help solve the problems.
To finish the game, all questions must be answered correctly, making it a bit harsh?
2. Through Google Sheets, students' problem-solving status and incorrect answers are automatically recorded, which is great for evaluation purposes.
3. It's easy to add more questions using Google Sheets.
