I'm not interested in AI, and the field I work in is an area where AI can't penetrate even with a knife.
It's PowerBuilder.. and net 1.0 based legacy that we've been operating until now. Of course, if better products emerge in the future that can cover even legacy systems, it might be possible.
Nevertheless, I often receive sales or POC proposals for local LLM products and agent-based workflow products.
And as some products have been delivered to certain departments, satisfaction seems to be high.
Recently, a POC proposal came in, and I was looking at the demo version. While installing the package on the server I'm testing, a problem occurred by mistake, causing my open webui to stop working.
While inevitably checking through the terminal, I was able to see the service of the product. It turned out to be based on ollama and open webui. In other words, it's just a redesigned open webui. I could find similarities in the ability to set up local llm models internally, the way to connect with external llms, and RAG functionality.
When I asked the company about a specific function that wasn't working, they said it was still unsupported. That's when my suspicions were confirmed. As the ollama version increased, it became necessary to check gpu driver and cuda compatibility, which I didn't know much about.
After that, I looked at all the brochures I had received before, and most of the configurations and functions were similar.
It seemed like we needed to look into the commercial aspects of the ollama and open webui licenses.
After going through this, I remembered what my instructor said when I took the llm training in the spring.
"What you are learning now is not just technology, but also a way to save your company's finances."
The point was that there are companies that commercialize products at the level of practice projects and make money.
I realized that some AI-related products currently introduced within the company use open source as is and sell them for a lot of money. I have no complaints about using open source well to provide good services. However, it made me wonder if license issues and open source issues would be resolved and if maintenance would go smoothly.
