Yesterday, Mirae Asset Securities released a short report on the recent US-China trade negotiations. I'm just sharing the table here. (They're really diligent analysts even during Chuseok.)
I added a link to the full report at the bottom of this post.
Issue | Before · May Beijing | After · September Washington | Key Change |
|---|
Tariffs·Trade | Managing tariff disputes and proceeding with follow-up negotiations. Ceasefire scheduled to end in November. | Trade truce extended to January 10, 2027. | Securing negotiation time rather than resolving disputes. |
Economy·Trade | Establishment of Trade and Investment Committees. | China announced a new joint agreement, but the specific details are undisclosed. | Distinguishing between announcement of agreement and actual results. |
Agricultural Products | Promise to purchase soybeans separately, along with a commitment to buy at least $17 billion worth of US agricultural products annually. | Continuing existing purchases but the scale of new purchases is unclear. | Checking implementation of existing promises rather than new contracts. |
Rare Earths | Agreement reached to resolve stable supply issues. | The US pointed out lack of implementation. New supply conditions are undisclosed. | Difficult to say that the supply issue has been resolved. |
AI | No separate summit agreement. | Both leaders confirmed the need for continued dialogue on AI. China proposed discussions on risks and benefits, as well as cooperation to prevent misuse. | Expanding the scope of discussion. Institutionalization of a system for reporting accidents is unclear. |
Advanced Semiconductors | US export controls and China's self-reliance in technology continue. | No confirmation of new regulatory changes for advanced GPUs and semiconductor equipment. | Lack of grounds to interpret as easing regulations. |
Taiwan | Existing differences in stance remain. The report explains that the US's existing expression does not support Taiwan independence. | China demanded the US oppose Taiwan independence. The US's official response is unclear. | China's demand has strengthened, but there is no confirmation of a change in the US stance. |
