Iran proposed a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for seven days

Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister, said in New York, where the UN General Assembly is being held, that he had sent a new proposal to the United States through a mediator. Araghchi said that most of the conditions were similar to the ceasefire agreement reached in Islamabad in June, and the White House said it was engaged in positive and constructive discussions through mediators.

Iranian President Masoud Pezevskiyan said that there is already an agreement signed with Trump and that he intends to continue negotiations within that framework. He also said that Iran is open to inspections of its nuclear facilities and wants to conclude a ceasefire agreement before the US midterm elections in November. On the same day, a resolution in the US Senate limiting the president's war powers against Iran failed by a vote of 49 to 50. The United States also seized three Iranian-linked oil tankers and about six million barrels of crude oil under sanctions.

Oil prices fluctuated significantly during the day. When news broke that Yemen's Houthi rebels had attacked a major refinery in Saudi Arabia's southern Jazan region, West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose more than 5%. However, when news emerged that the United States and Iran were discussing a phased agreement, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, prices rose 3.12% to close at $95.04. Oracle issued an unavoidable notice for its data center in New Mexico

Bloomberg reported that Oracle has issued an unavoidable notice to Stack Infrastructure, a developer backed by Blue Owl Capital, regarding the Jupiter project, a $165 billion, 2.45 gigawatt data center being built in New Mexico. This data center is one of five US data centers included in a $400 billion contract signed last year between Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank. More than 20 banks have provided $18 billion in construction financing. Oracle clarified that it is not planning to leave the project but intends to delay payments if the 2028 operational deadline is not met. It was also reported that the New Mexico Land Management Bureau repeatedly failed to approve access rights to the site, causing a six-month delay in the operation of a key gas pipeline until February 2027.

Oracle fell 3.47%, and Bloom Energy, which was expected to supply fuel cells to this data center, also fell 3.10%. Oracle stated that there are no issues with the project schedule. On the same day, Goldman Sachs raised its global data center capacity outlook for 2030 from 168 gigawatts to 217 gigawatts. There were also reports that BlackRock and IFM are in exclusive negotiations for a data center deal worth about $25 billion.

Meta rose 4.50% and surpassed SpaceX in market capitalization

There were reports that the number of daily active users on Muse, a metaverse platform developed by Meta, increased tenfold from about 70,000 on September 10 to about 700,000 on September 20. Meta also unveiled Horizon Studio, a tool that allows users to create 2D and 3D games using text prompts and share them directly on Facebook and Instagram. The stock price rose 4.50%, bringing its market capitalization to $1.96 trillion, surpassing SpaceX's $1.95 trillion and placing it seventh in the world. Game companies Roblox fell as much as 4.1% during the day, and Unity fell as much as 6.9%.

With the expectation that more AI agents like Muse will increase demand for server CPUs, Japanese printed circuit board maker Ibiden rose about 18% in two days. In Korea, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which supplies ABF substrates for server CPUs and AI chips, was also mentioned.

China announced a new trade agreement at the US-China summit

President Xi Jinping said that following his meeting with President Trump at the White House, economic and trade teams from both countries had reached a new joint agreement and that progress was being made on expanding access to the Chinese market for US agricultural products. President Trump called it a "very good meeting," and the two leaders discussed issues in the Middle East, Ukraine, and the Korean Peninsula, agreeing to support each other's hosting of major 20 meetings in 2026. The Trump administration is reportedly considering allowing production of Chinese electric vehicles in the United States.

President Trump said that while superintelligence was a key agenda item, he would not impose new regulations on AI development or establish a joint US-China regulatory framework. The White House will host an AI meeting with CEOs of major tech companies on the 29th. Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Mark Zuckerberg, Lisa Su, Tim Cook, Sam Altman, Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadella, and Jeff Bezos were invited to the state dinner.

There are reports that Hyundai Motor will rise to third place in US sales in the third quarter, surpassing Ford. Moderna recorded a new high among Nasdaq bio stocks, and Eli Lilly's once-weekly basal insulin Onzwers received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration. SpaceX fell 0.22% with the announcement of CEO Gwynne Shotwell selling about $52 million worth of shares and the burden of releasing protected securities, while Micron rose 0.81% on news of an investigation into DDR5 patent infringement by Netlist at the US International Trade Commission.

Fed officials' remarks also continued. John Williams, president of the New York Fed, said that market expectations for one more rate hike by the end of the year were reasonable, and Anna Paulson, president of the Philadelphia Fed, said that some additional tightening could be justified. The probability of a rate hike in October at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was 70%, and the dollar/won one-month forward in the offshore futures market was 1,367.0 won.

The domestic stock market will reopen on the 28th, and US personal consumption expenditure prices and Micron's earnings will be released on the 30th.

In terms of US stocks, Meta was mentioned the most, followed by Oracle and Alphabet.
