Indonesia and Bulgaria are promoting the expansion of trade and investment cooperation, marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. 70 Bulgaria is being considered as a base for Indonesian companies to enter the EU market., Indonesia's Trade Minister Budi Santoso requested Bulgaria's support for the implementation of the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), which is scheduled to take effect in early 2027.
Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investment and Industry Alexander Poulev expressed his agreement on the need to expand economic cooperation between the two countries. He suggested agriculture, automotive parts, and halal-certified meat as promising areas for cooperation. He also proposed the resumption of the Joint Economic Cooperation Committee between the two countries in the first half of 2027.
The trade volume between the two countries in 2025 was US$230.8 million (Rp4.08 trillion), with Indonesia recording a trade surplus of US$6.42 million (Rp1.14 trillion). Major export items included nickel ore, aluminum, steel products, and margarine. On the other hand, imports amounted to US$8.31 million (Rp1.47 trillion), with major import items including wheat, medical equipment, spices, and unprocessed tobacco and fumigation equipment.
