Testing Qwen 3.8 27B with two 5060 Ti 16GB cards.

I gathered the remaining parts:

  • CPU : AMD 5500GT

  • M/B : ASRock X570 Extreme4

  • RAM : DDR4-2666 16GB x 4

Due to the motherboard's limitations, one GPU is connected to the CPU's direct x8 slot, and the other uses the chipset's x4 slot.

The strange thing is that when I checked with lspci, both were linked at PCIe1.0 (2.5GT/s).

Specs say it should be 3.0... but even if I change the auto setting to 3.0, it stays at 1.0.

It seems like the board is outdated.

I set the main GPU for display output to the 5500GT integrated GPU.

As a beginner, I just installed LM Studio.

The model is Qwen3.8 27B Q4_K_M quantized version, and I only set the context size to 144K.

It seems like the maximum is 256K, but loading is impossible with this size.

I tried having LM Studio CLI write a black hole html:

  • Stop Reason: eosFound

  • Tokens/Second: 66.05

  • Time to First Token: 0.698s

  • Prompt Tokens: 145

  • Predicted Tokens: 43864

  • Total Tokens: 44009

I can't compare it because I can't run it single, but TPS seems pretty good even with PCIe1.0.

I think I need to improve the body cooling.

The GPU fan is running full blast, and the exhaust side metal plate is very hot...

I was considering changing the motherboard for a 2GPU setup at home, but I was hesitant about buying an expensive x8/x8 board.

It seems like a regular x16/x4 board wouldn't be a problem for just personal use.
