These days, there are a lot of good news stories, such as the news that Samsung Foundry's performance has improved.
Samsung Memory is breaking records thanks to the AI boom.
I suddenly thought that the foundry's performance might not be so good next year or the year after.
There's no specific reason, but I was reminded of a post by pazz (?).
It said something like, "I saw the DRAM market firsthand, and small and medium-sized companies can't get DRAM, so they can't produce products and are going bankrupt."
Samsung Foundry is increasing sales in HPC areas such as AI chips these days, but traditionally it has been focused on mobile APs and CIS products.
However, if the AI boom shrinks the mobile DRAM market, the overall smartphone market will shrink, and the mobile AP and CIS markets will also decline. Naturally, prices will fall, and profitability will deteriorate.
In other words, the better memory does, the worse the situation for foundries could become. If the proportion of AI-related products, which are driving market growth, doesn't increase significantly, it may become difficult in 1 to 2 years, although not immediately.
You might think I'm bringing up a negative topic out of nowhere when the mood is good.
Personally, I really hope that Samsung Foundry will turn a profit, but I don't have much faith in the management.
