Hello, I'm Surabay's new resident.
Recently, I completed the BIPA Instructor Training Course (Pelatihan Pengajaran BIPA). I want to briefly share what I felt and learned during this course. I hope it will be helpful for those who have been studying Indonesian for a long time like me, or for those interested in foreign language education in Korea and Indonesia.
Why did I take the instructor training course?
I have been teaching English for a long time, and Indonesian was a foreign language that I started learning on my own. However, Indonesian has become the foreign language I am most confident in, and I have always wanted to teach it someday.
Meanwhile, at the recommendation of my school, I decided to challenge myself by taking the BIPA Instructor Training Course offered by SEAQIL, an institution under the Indonesian Ministry of Education.
What did I learn?
The classes were held for about 8 weeks via Zoom, and all the instructors were current BIPA professionals. (Professors from renowned universities for UI and BIPA, current and former professors from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, officials from the Ministry of Education, etc.)
The topics covered are as follows.
What is the BIPA program? (Overview and history)
Indonesian teaching methods for foreign learners
Practical aspects of vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar education
Importance of cultural education and how to integrate it into lessons
Assessment design (focused on writing and speaking)
Textbook analysis and lesson activity design practice
Micro teaching demonstration with feedback!
Most of all, I remember designing lessons together with prospective instructors from various nationalities and giving each other feedback.
* The teaching methods I've been using in my English classes kept coming up, so I felt very confident 😉
Completion & Grades
A certificate of completion is issued upon successful completion of the entire course. Fortunately, I was able to finish with grades that I was satisfied with.
