When I tried to open Hermes's blender mcp documentation page today, a 404 error came up.
The related GitHub gives a 404 error as well.
Thinking this was not a simple outage, I had Codex dig into the background,
and this is what it found.
After the original GitHub account/repository was hijacked, Hermes forcibly removed the entries because of supply chain security concerns — that is what was confirmed.
Confirmed sequence of events
Hermes added Blender MCP to its official catalog around July 15, 2026. The server was blender-mcp==1.6.4 and was pinned there.
But on August 8, the original author ahujasid's GitHub account, along with the following repositories, was reported hijacked by Hermes.
ahujasid/blender-mcp
ahujasid/ableton-mcp
Hermes's security commit states that at the time the repositories were redirected to an attacker organization created that same day, MCPBlender, and that the attacker was pushing new commits. (Hermes security commit)
On August 10, Hermes deleted the following items all at once.
Blender MCP catalog manifest
blender-mcp skill
English and Chinese documentation pages
Website sidebar entries
Cross-references in related documents
So the corresponding URL in Hermes's official documentation is indeed currently 404, and the current Optional Skills list no longer has blender-mcp in it.
Incidents can happen, sure,
but it is a bit galling that Hermes just took the page down and kept its mouth shut.
And it leaves me uneasy. There is no explanation or warning of any kind for existing users.
I installed mine before that incident so I think I am safe, but it is uneasiness itself.
When I used Hermes on WSL there were no particular problems,
but since switching to Hermes desktop for Windows I am quite unhappy with it.
It is the Windows install version, yet whenever I ask it to do something it first assumes it is on Linux or WSL, searches on that basis,
writes scripts that way too, and only after trying this and that and failing does it go look for the Windows path.
It also does not seem to handle PowerShell well.
The funny part is that when I have it edit its own config file, it starts looking in .hermes.
.hermes is Hermes's install folder on linux/WSL, not on Windows.
I am not sure whether this is a matter of the LLM's intelligence or a matter of Hermes's configuration.
I am using Hermes because it makes cheap LLMs easy and convenient to use,
but lately I keep thinking strongly, should I just run Luna on Codex nonstop?
