The market's calculations surrounding the KOSDAQ promotion-relegation system are speeding up. While the financial authorities and the Korea Exchange push to introduce the system, securities firms are already narrowing down the candidates for the upper segment. This month NH Investment & Securities and Mirae Asset Securities projected around 70 and 78 stocks respectively as inclusion candidates. Even before the final criteria are out, the market's attention appears to be shifting to ‘who will move up.’
The core of the system is to divide KOSDAQ-listed companies into a tentatively named ‘Select’ tier centered on blue-chip·representative companies and a ‘Standard’ tier centered on ordinary companies. ‘Premium’ was initially raised as the name for the upper group, but the name Select is under review, reflecting opinions from the venture·venture capital (VC) industry and others concerned about stigma effects and ranking.
