Naver (NAVER) has reportedly invested in Anthropic, the company behind the generative AI 'Claude'. The exact investment amount has not been disclosed, but it is said to be a relatively small sum as it was an indirect investment.
According to industry sources on the 10th, Naver's US investment arm, Naver Ventures, invested in Anthropic late last year. It used an indirect investment method through a US venture capital (VC) fund, which has not been publicly known until now.
Naver Ventures is a corporate venture capital (CVC) established in San Francisco in June last year. Its main business is to discover and invest in startups in Silicon Valley. Naver Ventures has directly invested in nine startups and made separate contributions to three VC funds until June last year. The companies it directly invested in include AI companies Twelve Labs, voice AI company ElevenLabs, and AI data infrastructure companies. It is estimated that this Anthropic investment was made through one of the three venture funds that Naver Ventures has contributed to.
