To those of you who do club pack riding
that in itself is your freedom,
and sometimes when you overtake me while I am riding solo there are upsides to me latching on behind,
so when a pack is behind me I tend to slow down, or to stop pedaling and hold my speed so that they can just pass.
But today the headwind on the Ara Waterway was strong, so I was down in an aero position riding at about 28~30,
and when my rear radar showed a pack coming up behind, I just kept going so they could pass as they saw fit,
and the leader of the pack said "coming past" as he overtook. But then the second rider, a woman, went by making a gesture twice as if pushing me over to the right?
From the pack's point of view that may be a helpful role, securing a wider lane for certain,
but this is a bike path, not a public road,
and it is not as if I was riding slowly (28~30 into a headwind).
The pack could simply ask to be excused and overtake on their own,
so do I have to move over to the right for them as well?
Of course, when a pack goes by I usually end up riding over to the right naturally..,
I have seen plenty of pack riding, but this is the first time I have seen someone so boldly gesture at me to move aside because they are coming through, rather than asking to be excused..
Even on a bike path, and even when not riding slowly, are you generally supposed to ride over to the right in consideration of fast riders and pack riding?
My average speed is around 30~35 and I usually do ride somewhat over to the right,
but today the headwind was strong so I was in an aero position and did ride in the middle of the lane (the middle of the riding lane, not the center line)
Pack riding must be fun, but
do they not realize it can easily become a nuisance
They would understand if they got overtaken by a pack while riding solo.,
Especially a pack going at a middling speed of barely 30
boldly announcing that they are coming through to someone riding at a similar speed
and in effect urging them to get out of the way
is that not a bit much?
I am posting to hear what all of you think
so here it is.
Come to think of it,
their pack was still behind,
so the gesture to move aside was probably for safety.,
but in that case simply asking to be excused would be appropriate;
is it right to make a hand motion that seems to directly push someone over to the side...
