I am a third-year high school student writing this out of boredom during the evening at the study room,,
If it is boring you can just skip it ㅎㅎ
I am a student who has ridden a bike since I was four
It was a white four-wheeler with black spots and training wheels
Fifteen years ago fewer people wore helmets than now, and yet
I was famous among the neighborhood parents as the kid who always wore his helmet ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Before long I took off the training wheels and rode that spotted bike all the way to the old Neungnae Station and all over the place
I live in Namyangju, near where the Wangsukcheon meets the Han River
Whenever I rode with my dad as a child, the men passing by would say the little one rides so well
and everyone praised me as they went by; I suspect a few of you here were among them
After inheriting the Samchuly hybrid that had been the middle school entrance gift of my sister, five years older than me, I rode the 50km round trip to Jamsu Bridge with my dad
and went over Mieumnaru (Sochanhwi) without a second thought,,
Maybe because I was young, or because it was a hybrid, I rarely had to walk the bike up Mieumnaru so I did not know,
but looking it up now it turns out it is notorious.. (a boot-shaped course? I am not sure)
Speaking of Mieumnaru, there is one story that comes to mind; I wonder whether anyone knows it
If you come down from Mieumnaru and go a little toward Deokso Sampae, there is a very small stream joining the Han River, and over it
there is now a flat bridge, but there was a time long ago when that bridge did not exist..
Next to it there was, and still is, a stone bridge shaped like \____/ ,
a dangerous bridge with extremely steep slopes and no fences on either side
When I was little the slope looked terribly steep; I have not seen it in a long time so I am not sure now
Ever since the spotted-bike days my dad always told me to hold the brakes and cross slowly,
and one day, as I was crossing there, a woman riding ahead of me had an accident right there...
On that bumpy stone surface she lost teeth and an ambulance came.
To me as a child back then it was an enormous accident
It was what made me resolve to wear my helmet properly and gave me a sense of caution to ride carefully.
Ma'am, this is very late, but I hope you made a full recovery,,
My guess is that the flat bridge next to it was probably built because of that incident
And the pork cutlet club next to Mieumnaru is genuinely delicious; I went very often, though I do not think I saw anyone who came by bike
It is right next to the bike path, so do drop by sometimeㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Once I became a middle schooler I disliked helmets because I wanted to look cool, so I did not ride
and in high school I did not ride because I was studying, and I have not ridden a bike since..
I did not so much as glance at fixies ㅎㅎ
Then in my second year of high school I suddenly became interested in road bikes and wanted to make it a hobby
So my parents said that if I brought back good grades on the October mock exam in my second year they would buy me a Chinese-made Sava bike costing about 1.17 million won
ㅎ I did not manage it. Looking back now I am very glad I did not buy it then, a Sava that would not even sell secondhand..
And having kept only the dream of a road bike tucked carefully in a corner of my heart until now, if I take the CSAT and get into a good university, for a total of 3.5 million
they say they will buy me one
Looking at it again, I really am glad I did not buy last year ㅎㅎ
There are still months left before the admission results come out
yet I keep popping in and out of Dosa
Seeing my posts you might ask why I am getting ahead of myself when I have not even bought one..
Getting ahead of myself is fun,, jumping the gun..
It feels like my bike knowledge grows more each day than the knowledge I gain from studying. ㅎ Just kidding
Please do not tell me to study instead of hanging around Dosa
I have put YouTube, SNS and games far away for a year
All I do in a day is study, browse Dosa, and poop
Please give a word of encouragement to a future cycling nut with about 100 days left until the CSAT
To steel my resolve.. fighting
In a few months I will post a decent bike on the bike registration board and leave a post
Thank you for reading this long post; I hope everyone rides safely in this hot summer!
