Apple recorded a 49% share of global smartphone revenue in the second quarter, according to market research firm Counterpoint Research data cited by AppleInsider on July 31 (local time). This is a 5 percentage point increase from Apple's revenue share of 44% in the same period last year.
The revenue share is more than double the sales volume share. Regarding these results, Counterpoint analyzed that "increased shipments and price increases had an impact."
The average selling price of iPhone increased by 8% to $946 compared to the same period last year. The strong performance of the iPhone's average selling price is analyzed to be due to the demand for the iPhone 17 lineup. In particular, the iPhone 17 base model and 17 Pro Max played a significant role.
Counterpoint explained that "thanks to the demand for these two models, Apple was able to maintain a premium device-centric lineup without a sharp price increase like some competitors."
Apple is also analyzed to have benefited from the rise in memory prices. Counterpoint's analysis is that Apple's stable pricing policy has made the iPhone more valuable despite the increased cost burden due to rising memory prices.
On the other hand, many Android manufacturers rely more heavily on mid-to-low-priced models, so there is a high possibility that demand will shrink sharply if they raise prices.
Samsung followed with a 16% share of the global smartphone market revenue in the second quarter. Counterpoint said, "Samsung's smartphone revenue and shipments are estimated to have increased by 9% each." The average price of Samsung phones was calculated at $270.
Counterpoint revealed that while global smartphone shipments decreased in the second quarter, total revenue increased by 7% to $109 billion. It also revealed that the average selling price also increased by 17% to around $400.
