While changing wheels recently.. I had a lot of thoughts
Looking back at the wheels I used before (as a dad I could not even dream of buying the truly top-tier wheels..),
I was still curious about how each maker feels, so I bought and sold quite a lot of them.
Cadex 65, Bora WTO 60, arc 1400, Enve ses 4.5 AR, Aviaave Adeon 2 50mm, Aviaave Neo 50mm, Aviaave Adeon 4 62mm
Well.. it is not as if I have used a huge number..
The reason I eventually came back to Aviaave after switching between all these wheels was...
honestly, because my engine is rubbish.
Those with plenty of spare cash can just buy them, but 'my ability deserves this wheel?' felt like a luxury,
so I came back to Aviaave
In the end, I think riders with an FTP score of around 3.5-4.0 will feel the difference immediately when they change wheels,
but honestly, for me at under 3.0, changing them made... no great difference in my numbers. Honestly there was almost no change.
(They say 60mm wheels save a lot of watts from a cruising speed of 40km/h up, and below that it is honestly hard to feel.)
The frame is not a top-tier bike either (Bianchi Aria, Pinarello F5),
but well.. the ride is comfortable, it is strong in crosswinds; those things I do feel,
yet a really dramatic push from behind, or cruising being genuinely easy!! I do not think I got that much of a feeling.
Well.. while cruising 'oh, this feels a bit easier?', and on climbs or when dancing 'oh, the stiffness is good?', those vague feelings do come,
but whether it was just the high (?) of changing wheels, in the numbers there was no difference ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Maybe it is because my score is low and I am insensitive...
but from the standpoint of someone cruising at 30km/h I do not think I felt any tremendous, big (?) difference ㅠ
So lately I have been doing zone training diligently..
I too want to get past the 3-point range to 3.5 and feel a dramatic difference when I change wheels ㅠ
By any chance, are there best wheels where you personally felt the difference the most after changing?..
