Hello? I'm a neighborhood rider in my late 40s enjoying cycling. ^^
It's been a year since Evolve was recommended last July, and I'd like to share some of the changes I've made for weight reduction and my thoughts on it.
I'm sharing this from the perspective of a general cyclist.
I haven't visited the forum in a long time, but it seems there have been various issues related to Evolve.
I'm not sponsored by any oil drops, and I've never even been near Suiding Sports. ^^;;
To summarize the changes, I switched from the wheelset (Eld2 50 -> Eightlin LW6 60) / rotors (Dura Ace -> Chase front and rear 140mm) / carbon saddle (50g) / water bottle cage 2ea each 5g added to PowerCup TPU setting.
I was able to reduce the weight by about 200g, and at 7-8kg, it felt like a significant difference. (Weight around 55)
I'll omit my feelings about the frame from the first review and focus on sharing my subjective impressions of the wheelset change and overall weight reduction.
First of all, I didn't change the Eld2 50 because it was bad. I wanted to experience a 60mm or more rim in a similar class, so I did a swap at Dossa.
If I had the budget, I would have changed to a major wheelset like Bora, ENVE, Campagnolo, etc., but due to price and specs, I ended up choosing Eightlin.
The reasons for choosing Eightlin were: first, depth of 60mm or more; second, internal width (25mm, 30c or wider when using 28c tires); third, wide carbon spokes; fourth, ceramic bearings; and fifth, weight.
In conclusion, it felt like the flat-out performance was improved.
It felt like adding a few aerodynamic items to a lightweight all-around frame. Of course, the Eld2 50mm wasn't bad in terms of rolling resistance, but I felt a watt saving (40 seconds mid) with the Eightlin 60mm.
Whether it was because of the Eightlin or the 60mm rim, it's difficult to analyze accurately from a general cyclist's perspective. However, based on power figures and subjective feelings, I felt the difference.
In addition, the spokes were reduced from 24 holes on the Eld2 50 to 20 holes on the Eightlin (8 holes front and rear), and the weight was about -20g compared to the 50mm Eld2. The feeling was similar in low-speed intervals or weak uphill climbs. [It's hard to distinguish accurately because of the 200g weight reduction, so please just take it as a feeling~ >,.<;;]
The saddle is only recommended for those with small buttocks and light weight, and there was no significant difference in braking force between Dura and the calipers.
Finally, I think there will be a fork in the road later on whether to go with 50mm (around 1100g) or try 65mm or more once.
Since I have short legs and a light build, I wanted to build it as light as possible, and I am satisfied for now.
Of course, if you ride an Eswork or Dogma with weight reduction, you may be able to achieve even better performance. However, I think it's best to make the choice that suits your situation.
I couldn't afford a good bike, so I'm satisfied like this..ㅜㅜ ^^;
Thank you for reading my long and rambling post after a long time.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable ride~~^^
