(Daejeon=Yonhap News) Park Joo-young = The Daejeon Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it has established a "bicycle road maintenance standard" for the first time among metropolitan cities nationwide to ensure the safety of bicycle users and strengthen the continuity of bicycle roads.
According to the standard, when constructing roads in the future, bicycle-only lanes (separated by medians and boundary stones, separating vehicle traffic from bicycle traffic) or bicycle-only lanes (lanes separated from other roadways by lane markings, safety signs, and pavement markings) will be prioritized for sections with a width of 20 meters or more.
For sections less than 20 meters wide, separated bicycle and pedestrian paths (paths where sidewalks and bicycle roads are separated by asphalt paving) will be applied as a priority.
When renovating existing roads, separated bicycle and pedestrian paths will be installed for widths of 2.7 meters or more, and non-separated shared paths with signage will be installed for widths between 2.0 and 2.7 meters.
In addition, to enhance the safety and convenience of bicycle roads, detailed criteria were also included, such as the use of unique colored asphalt paving, application of elevated intersections at rear road crossings, and non-separated applications in tunnel and underground passage sections.
The city plans to apply the bicycle road maintenance standard established this time to development projects and bicycle road renovation projects in stages.
